PF coaches to observe Seoul versus Umm-Salal

KUALA LUMPUR: A grand-stand view of an AFC Champions League clash awaits a group of talented young coaches from the AFC Project Future programme.

The group, students of the inaugural 2007 batch, will be watching the ACL quarter-final first leg match between Korea Republic’s FC Seoul and Umm-Salal, of Qatar on September 23.

“It will be a great opportunity for these young coaches to see how the professionals work,” said Project Future Coaches director Gary Phillips.

“They may have a chance to talk to the coaches and ask them questions about preparation, tactic and other issues.”

The 2007 batch is due to graduate at the end of the year as they prepare for the ‘B’ Certificate coaching license.

Seoul, who are the home team, are coached by Turkish Senol Gunes while Umm-Salal are helmed by Frenchman Gerard Gili.

The coaches have already had the chance to enjoy a session with Thailand coach Peter Reid.

Project Future Coaches is a programme unique to AFC that identifies talented coaches from the annual Festivals of Football and provides them with two years of further education.

A similar programme is run for referees.
