Exclusive: Peter Reid To Stoke City Isn't A Done Deal - Thailand Assistant Steve Darby

There is still hope for Thai fans...
Despite Stoke City’s public intention to persuade Peter Reid to leave his job as head coach of Thailand to become assistant to Tony Pulis at the Britannia Stadium, Reid’s own number two, Steve Darby, has told Goal.com that nothing has been decided yet.

Reid, who took the Bangkok job in September 2008, attended Stoke’s goalless draw at Birmingham City on Saturday.

After the match, Pulis said, "Peter Reid was in the directors' box at Birmingham and we are hoping to do a deal in the coming week to bring him in as my number two.

"There is a minor issue about securing his release from his job with the Thailand FA but we don't believe that will present a problem for us."

Darby, who coached in Australia, Singapore and Malaysia before assisting fellow Liverpudlian Reid in Thailand, believes that it is not a done deal.

“Nothing official has come to the Thai FA as yet, so at the moment it's an ongoing story,” Darby told Goal.com.

“When the FA receives anything formally, Dato Worawi [the president] plans a press conference.”

“I am in daily contact with Peter, and at this moment nothing is concrete yet....but he regularly gets offered jobs as he was so successful over a long period with Sunderland.”

For the time being, it is business as usual for the South-East Asian nation and for the experienced Englishman.

“I'm just continuing with the monitoring of national team players and trying to conclude the squad for the SEA games in December,” added Darby.

“Plus I'll be working with our successful U-19s at some stage soon. We are trying to develop an integrated national team progam so the elite players can develop smoothly. We've already had two of the U-19s train with the national team, there is so much talent here.

"The Thai Premier league is booming with sellout crowds every week so the players are getting a high level of competition before the Asian Cup in November.”
