Female refs among Project Future Batch 07


KUALA LUMPUR: Two females referees are among the 23 participants taking part in next week’s Project Future Batch 07 Referees Development course here.

Singaporean Abirami Apbai Naidu and Uzbekistan’s Edita Mirabidov are joined by 21 men for the July 30 to August 4 course.

The 2007 batch represent the first group of young referees to be selected from the annual AFC Festivals of Football and are set to graduate at the end of the year.

The youngest participant is 21-year-old Suresh Jayaraman, of Malaysia, while China’s Wang Di, is the oldest at 28.

Referees from Australia, Bangladesh, China, Iran, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Qatar, Singapore, Thailand and Uzbekistan are represented.

The development of Asian referees take on added significance this year with 2009 designated Asian Referees Year by AFC and September 1 to be celebrated as Asian Referees Day.
