Kuwait City: Kuwait league champions Al Qadsia marched into the semi-finals of this year's AFC Cup thanks to a 3-0 win over Thai Port in the second leg of their quarter-final encounter at Mohammed Al Hamad Stadium on Tuesday.
After a goalless first leg in Bangkok, the hosts went in front both on the night and on aggregate when Hamed Al Enezi opened the scoring after 13 minutes before Bader Al Motawaa doubled the advantage shortly afterwards. Abdulaziz Meshaan then netted the third in the second-half.
Al Qadsia drew first blood when Al Enezi headed home Al Motawaa's cross from the left and could have added to their lead shortly afterwards but Al Motawaa's shot inside the area from Al Enezi's pass was directly at Thai Port goalkeeper Pattarakorn Tanganurat.
Thai Port went in search of an equaliser and Ekkachai Samre fired wide before the hosts claimed a crucial second goal after 22 minutes when Al Enezi's pass saw Al Motawaa spring the offside trap before rounding the goalkeeper and stroking the ball into the net.
Abdulaziz fired narrowly over three minutes later from the edge of the box following Al Motawaa's pass as Thai Port survived until the break with just a two-goal deficit.
However, Al Qadsia continued their dominance in the second period and they should have added a third goal in the 54th minute when Abdulaziz Meshaan had only the goalkeeper to beat but his shot was straight at the body of Pattarakorn.
Meshaan made up for his earlier miss in the 76th minute when he latched onto a long pass from the back to beat the offside trap and he too dribbled round the goalkeeper and scored to make the scoreline 3-0.
Thai Port came close to what would have been a consolation goal in the 84th minute when substitute Alef Pohji made his way down the left side of the area but the midfielder's shot hit the crossbar.
The visitors continued to press in the final minutes and were again denied in the first minute of stoppage time when Sompong Soleb's shot from inside the area was cleared off the line by defender Ali Al Shamali.
